90). Transcribed message from Signal Corps soldier with initials CP, to Gen. Couch, signed by Gen. Daniel Butterfield, April 30, 1863.... during the Chancellorsville Campaign in Virginia’s Wilderness area. Butterfield is telling Couch that Hooker’s Union Army is left of a stream crossing named U.S. Ford and that Union Cavalry General Kirpatrick has dispatches for Couch. Hook was positioning to get between Richmond and Confederate General Robert E. Lee’s Army of Northern Virginia. (2.5x3.75 note with some creases, very RARE, est $150-200).

As a reward for his service in the war, he was appointed governor of the Michigan Territory by President James Madison on October 29, 1813. Cass represented the State of Michigan in the United States Senate from 1845 to 1848. 12th United States Presidential campaign in 1848. After losing the election to Zachary Taylor, he returned to the Senate, serving from 1849 to 1857 From 1857 to 1860 Cass served as Secretary of State under President James Buchanan. Superb first hand account on his personal encounter with the President who was enroute to Washington to be inaugurated.Charles Wilkes was just a boy when he rode on the same train as President Lincoln. “ Just as I was about to jump off, Mr. Lincoln put his hand upon my head and said, God Bless you my boy.”Uncommon and quite rare. The Photo album belonged to George N. Copp of 13th NH Vols. then became Captian of 25 PA Regiment of US Colored Troops, Co. B. It was put together as a present from his mother. 176). Nelson Miles, Major General, during Civil War, an 1865 typed signed letter. Nelson Miles commanded the troops that put down the Pullman strike riots in 1894, and was commander of the army during the Spanish-American War. In his early days when the Civil War broke out. He joined the army as a volunteer and fought for the Union in some of the war's most crucial battles, including Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville and the Appomatox campaign. Wounded four times, he rose in rank to become a major general of volunteers and was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor for his personal bravery at Chancellorsville. In 1874-1875, he was a field commander in the force that defeated the Kiowa, Comanche and Southern Cheyenne along the Red River. In 1876-1877, he led the winter campaign that scoured the northern Plains after Custer's defeat at the Little Bighorn, forcing the Lakota and their allies onto reservations. estimate: $175
